thunder

You were born when the qi of Thunder--the herald of spring-- dominated in the world. East is the direction of thunder, which belongs to the element wood. The front door of your house should face east so that the energy of your element will flow unimpeded into your residence. This is an auspicious direction, so an eastern room on the 2nd floor of your house could be a study, a den or a bedroom. For the thunder person the east is governed by the two Stellar Attendants who stand to the left and right of the Big Dipper--the throne of Shang Di, the Celestial Lord.

wood

In a thunder house, southeast is the direction of long life, which is governed by the element wood. The dining room should be located here.

fire

The master bedroom should be placed in the southern portion of your house, the direction of the element fire. In the mutual production order of the elements, wood generates fire, so your element and this direction are mutually beneficial. This is the direction of sheng qi, "vital breath," the most auspicious portion of your home.

earth

Earth resides in the southwest, the direction of injury and misfortune. Like the primitive wooden plowshare of the Chinese peasant, your element breaks open the fallow ground, wounding the springtime earth. Permanent residents of this sector will be prone to accident. The southwest sector of the house is appropriate for temporary living space, but people in this location should not make use of sharp instruments or appliances.

lake

The element of the lake is metal, which cuts wood in the conquest order of the elements. A bronze axe slices through a young sapling like a boat plows through a wave. In a thunder house, west is the direction of death, and you should spend as little time as possible here. This direction is extremely detrimental to your health. This section of the house is never appropriate for living space, and should be used for storage.

heaven

The element of the heavens is also metal. For a thunder person, the direction of heaven is the traditional location in a Chinese home for the ancestral altar. The northwest section of your house could therefore be haunted and is not appropriate for a bedroom, or any room that is occupied at night. A bathroom or kitchen would be appropriate here.

water

The study, office, or den/living room should be located in the north portion of the house, the direction of water. Since water nourishes wood in the mutual production order of the five elements, the time you spend in this room will be rejuvenating. The Celestial Physician governs this room, so a bedroom here is the ideal place to recuperate from illness.

mountain

The element of the mountain is earth. Like the taproot of an ancient tree, in the mutual conquest order of the elements wood saps earth. Were the master of the house to spend much time here, a distressing event might occur. The northeast sector of the house is a malignant direction, but the malignancy can be countered by locating the kitchen here so that the fire of the stove will burn off the sha, or killing qi. This section of the house may also be utilized as a bedroom for other members of the household, such as an older child, or as a guest bedroom.
